[OWLS Blog Tour: “Dreamers”] Nobody Wants to be Forgotten: Noragami

Hello! I’m back for my fourth blog tour with OWLS!

This month’s topic was a tough one. This month we are covering characters who have dreams, or goals, but fall short of meeting those goals, due to some sort of force stopping them. We’re calling those characters dreamers.

Top 10 Male Anime Characters — 07/16/2017

Top 10 Male Anime Characters

I did a top 10 of female characters a while back with the full intention of doing this post immediately after, but I guess I forgot about it. Well, here it is now. I’ll have to say this list was much easier to compile than Top 10 Female Anime Characters, for reasons I’m somewhat ashamed of. I’ve realized that when I become attached to a male character, they tend to have one or more of the following traits: short stature, short temper, and blond hair. Which almost every character on this list falls into.

Top 10 Female Anime Characters — 05/22/2017

Top 10 Female Anime Characters

I’m sorry for the long wait (2 months to be exact), I was finishing up classes these past couple weeks so I’ve had other things on my mind. It should be more frequent from now on.

I can always appreciate when an anime can make a female character right. There are too many that use the girls of anime as fanservice or give them a cardboard personality. All of the girls I have chosen for this list are not fanservice characters, and have great character qualities. I tried to get a variety from anime I watched a while ago and more recent ones. I’ve noticed I tend to talk about the same shows constantly, so I’m trying to mix it up a bit if I can.

Ten Animes With Beautiful Art — 02/24/2017

Ten Animes With Beautiful Art

I am obsessed with the anime style. That’s the main reason why I watch these shows. It’s not because they’re Japanese, or that it’s cool or whatever. It’s because for the most part, the art is good, and they have themes that are for older audiences. If it weren’t for anime I’d be stuck watching Disney movies and cartoons from my childhood and the present. Which most don’t have huge fanbases. I love that these shows have such a huge fanbase that I can be a part of while admiring great art styles.

My Favorite Anime Couples — 02/14/2017

My Favorite Anime Couples

I figured that in honor of Valentine’s Day I would share some of my favorite pairings in anime. I understand that this is a somewhat touchy subject for some, if their favorite isn’t on here, or if I ship a character with someone different that what they feel. But I knew I would talk about it at some point, so why not now? Understand that I will not make fun of any person’s pairing preferences, as long as I don’t get any nasty comments. Thank you, we are all fans of the same fanbase. Be nice! 🙂 Continue reading

My Top 5 Animes — 09/04/2016

My Top 5 Animes

Since this is all pretty new to me, I figured why not share my top 5 animes, overall.  Though I watch both dubbed and subbed anime, my top 5 I happened to watch dubbed.  Most of my favorites are pretty popular, so you most likely have heard of them.

The way I’ll have this set up (and for all lists) is the initial list, and then do a short paragraph or two explaining the plot and why I like it so much.  This may be split into multiple posts.

Alright so here we go.  *drumroll*

  1. Ouran High School Host Club
  2. Fullmetal Alchemist (both ’03 version and Brotherhood)
  3. Soul Eater
  4. Assassination Classroom
  5. Noragami

Yes, I get it that it’s pretty weird to have a random shoujo/comedy/reverse harem in the middle of awesome shounen, but my taste varies.  I’m actually kind of addicted to comedy/romance anime and manga, but it’s more of a side thing.  The characters and stories I care about the most are awesome adventure anime. And Ouran.  But there’s a specific reason for that.  I’ll get to it later.

(These are going to be in backwards order)

So, Noragami.  I only watched this show last year, I just happened to stumble upon it on Netflix when I had nothing else to do.  I began to watch it subbed, since that was the only way to watch it on Netflix, and by the second episode I was already in love with it.  It only got better from there.  For those who don’t know about Noragami, here’s the brief synopsis.

The show is based around Japanese gods, and focuses on one god, Yato.  He’s one of the unknown gods to the Japanese people and his dream is to become one of the most popular and gain absolute fame.  Unfortunately, he only does odd jobs for the low price of 5 yen (approximately 5 cents), and is having trouble with this.  He meets a middle school girl, Hiyori Iki, after she attempts to save him from getting hit by a bus.  But, this backfires, since he would have been completely fine without her help.  In the impact from the bus, she discovers a new side of herself and travels with Yato to find a way to return her back to normal.

Okay, that wasn’t exactly brief, but I tried.  I didn’t spoil anything, aren’t you proud of me!?

Next we have Assassination Classroom.  I LOVE this show.  I can’t exactly explain it, but it’s just so different from everything else I’ve watched.  It only recently finished airing, but it was absolutely amazing and ending definitely pulls on your heartstrings.  So, another brief summary, since it’s a new show and everything.  Though, it may not be great since it’s been a while since I watched the first couple episodes.

It focuses on Kunugigaoka Junior High’s class 3-E, which has to be trained to become assassins.  The reason?  Their teacher has blown up part of the moon, and by March, the Earth will be blown up too.  If they manage to assassinate their teacher before the deadline, they will be able to save the world from being blown up.  Another thing about their teacher: he’s not exactly a normal human.  He can only be killed using a certain type of material, is yellow and has tentacles, and can move at a speed of Mach 20.

That’s my summary on it, I won’t explain other characters, I’d rather it be a surprise since they are honestly the best part of the show.  Also, one unique thing about this show: every student in the class is a character, and there are even more characters than just that.  I think they did an incredible job juggling so many characters.  Though there are only six characters that have a major impact on the story, each person has their own unique personality and design. This is brave for an anime to do, since as you probably know, the main character usually sits in the back corner of the room, next to the window, to make it easier for the animators.  And other characters in the class are a basic outline with no face so they don’t have to design more people and draw them all the time.  I just can’t say enough about how impressive the whole feat is.

Anyway, onto the next anime, Soul Eater.  I doubt that you haven’t heard of this one.  This was actually the first anime I had ever heard of, strangely enough.  Again, I only recently watched it, but I had been told for years to watch it.  (I actually watched this and Noragami at the same time)  I don’t think I need to give a summary at all, so I guess I’ll just kind of go through my favorite characters.

My favorite character is Maka, I know you were probably expecting me to say Death the Kid, but Maka and I, we’re like the same person.  I know, that’s a bizarre claim, but there’s a reason.  During the time I was being told to watch this show, I had the nickname of Maka.  Maybe it was because of my obsession with books, or my straight A’s, or my shoulder-length blonde-brown hair, but either way, I was told I was a lot like her.  I usually brushed it off since I thought they were all insane, but once I started watching it, I was shocked by how much they were right.  Not only do I show the basic character traits of her, but I’m also temperamental, stubborn, and quite sassy at times (not to brag or anything).  I share the negative traits, but I’m okay with that.  She’s a totally awesome character, and I think she’s so awesome that I’m practically done making a cosplay of her for me to wear at the anime convention I go to every fall.  And yes, I’m making Soul as well (scythe form, obviously).  Yeah, I love this show.

As for the rest, here’s kind of the order I have in my head.

  1. Maka
  2. Death the Kid
  3. Crona
  4. Soul
  5. Stein
  6. Liz
  7. Tsubaki
  8. Patti

You may notice that I don’t have Black*Star on there.  I’m sorry for any of his fans, but I’m not a fan of him.  Sorry, I find him a bit annoying.

Anyway, I’ve rambled enough for this week.  If you’re interested to see what I have to say about Fullmetal Alchemist and Ouran High School Host Club, I’ll post those rants next week, or in a couple days, depending on my mood.

I hope you enjoyed reading this, since it’s more personal to my own opinions and all.  Other posts won’t be as personal, and some will.  Next post, you’ll see a little more into my personal life when I talk about Ouran High School Host Club.

Bye! *waves*
